Furia Flamenca

Is a flamenco dance company which brings the ferocity and passion of flamenco to the stage.  Furia Flamenca's style is unique in that it combines flamenco's gypsy heritage with modern flamenco choreography to create an elegant balance of motion and energy making their performances absolutely enthralling and totally entertaining.

Founded by director Estela Velez in January 2003, Furia Flamenca has taken the best elements of it's dancers backgrounds (ranging from flamenco, ballet, Middle Eastern, modern, and tap to name a few) and melded them into a sumptuous feast for the eyes, ears, and heart with thier range of expression, ability to entice the audience, and joy for dancing.

In January 2005 the company became a Resident Arts Partner with the Joy of Motion Dance Center.

Furia Flamenca has performed in venues throughout the DC Metro area including the Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage, Publick Playhouse, Alden Theatre, National Theater, Dance Place, Jack Guidone Theatre, Carter Barron Theater, Mexcian Cultural Institute, and Ernst Community Cultural Center as well as at numerous festivals including Dance DC Festival, Chery Blossom Festival, the Feria de Sevilla, Magical Montgomery, Taste of Bethesda, and the Adams Morgan Day Festival. Furia Flamenca has also regularly been invited to perform at the Spanish Embassy. In addition it has had various television appearances including "Generacion Latina," Montgomery Public Access Television, "Daily Cafe," Retirement Network Television, Noticias Univision, "Fashion Notes" at the Fairfax Public Television, and the Fox Morning Show. It's choreographies have been selected to be presented in numerous shows including the World Dance Showcase in 2008, Dance Place's New Releases Choreographer's Showcase in 2007 and 2008, Joy of Motion's Dance Project in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Dance Bethesda in 2007, and Jane Franklin Dance Sampler in 2006.

Furia Flamenca is a member of the Creative Arts Program (CAPS) in Fairfax, VA, and the Cultural Arts Program with the Montgomery County Public Schools.
